At Nova Zeal, colour plays a big role in the design process. Many of our handmade dog enrichment toys are created using carefully chosen palettes such as the Cool, Warm, Autumn and Winter collections.
Alongside these collections, you may also see some items listed as Design Roulette.
Design Roulette means the exact colour combination is chosen during the making process, allowing the studio to create playful, unexpected palettes while keeping the same design, materials and craftsmanship.
The result is the same enrichment toy, with the same quality and materials, but with a small element of surprise in the colours.
Inspired by Market Favourites
Design Roulette toys have actually been available at markets over the past year, where they quickly became favourites with many of you.
At markets, customers are able to browse and choose their favourite colour combinations in person. Online, however, it became difficult to offer the same level of choice while keeping listings clear and manageable.
Design Roulette is a slightly different approach that allows these popular items to still be available online, while keeping the making process flexible and creative.
What Does Design Roulette Mean?
Design Roulette means the exact colour combination is chosen during the making process rather than selected in advance.
You will still receive the same toy, made with the same materials and craftsmanship, but the colour pairing becomes a small surprise.
Every piece is handcrafted, and the Design Roulette approach allows colour combinations to evolve naturally as each item is made.
Why Design Roulette Exists
Nova Zeal products are handmade using carefully selected fleece fabrics. Sometimes colours work beautifully together in ways that weren't originally planned.

It also helps reduce fabric waste by allowing smaller pieces of fleece to be used creatively while still producing high-quality enrichment toys.
